Television and computers
Australian householders and small businesses can drop-off televisions,
computers, computer products (such as keyboards, mice and hard drives) and
printers at designated points across Australia.
It's a free service offered by the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, currently being rolled out across Australia.
See the Recycling Near You website for your closest drop-off point.

Why a National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme?
The National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme will boost the
recycling rate for television and computer products in Australia from an
estimated 17% in 2010 to 30% in 2012-13 and to 80% by 2021-2. This is important
as these products make up an increasing part of the waste stream, contain
valuable materials that can be re-used and contain hazardous materials which
need to be managed in a safe manner.
The scheme is funded and run by industry and regulated by the Australian
Government under the Product Stewardship Act 2011 and the Product Stewardship
(Televisions and Computers) Regulations 2011.
Banning e-waste from landfill
The Victorian Government is committed to banning e-waste from landfill. It
recognises the important contribution that product stewardship schemes can make
to the improved management of particular waste streams, and is cognisant of the
need for state implementation to be aligned with the National TV and Computer Recycling Scheme. As such, the government works with community groups, local
government, business and industry to explore ways to implement the policy in the
most cost-effective manner and to examine industry opportunities for the
increased recovery of e-waste.
